Baker Perkins is making major investments in machine tools to add capacity and cut lead times for powder coating extruders and parts. We are also expanding our US operation.

 

We are reacting speedily to an upsurge in demand, both for new extruding systems, and the new MAX³ infeed system.

 

We have installed two state-of-the-art vertical machining centres at our Peterborough, UK facility. These machine tools, supplied by US market leader Haas, take our manufacturing capability to new levels of quality and productivity.

 

Production of extruder parts, such as liners and circulation blocks, previously involved multiple operations on several machines: they can now be completed much more rapidly on a single machining centre. Advanced features include synthetic operation – a dry run to validate programmes before cutting metal.

 

Later this year we intend to add a new agitator cell to our facilities, to make parts such as extruder agitator elements. We will expand upon existing machine tools with highly automated production technology and software, creating a one-stop production system from raw material to finished part.

 

In the USA, our Grand Rapids, Michigan based powder coating operation will soon be expanded with the appointment of a specialist focusing on spares and service activities.
